Patricia Cahill, former Catholic Health Initiatives CEO, dies

Longtime healthcare executive Patricia Cahill passed away over the weekend. She was in her early 80s.

Cahill was the first chief executive of Catholic Health Initiatives. She was inducted to the Modern Healthcare Hall of Fame in 2009, about six years after Kevin Lofton succeeded Cahill as Catholic Health Initiatives CEO.

Cahill studied French and sought a career in teaching. She entered the healthcare industry in 1972 as a budget director at the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. After working her way up to vice presiden andt managing day-to-day operations, Cahill spent three years as vice president of government relations at the Catholic Health Association. She took a job in 1983 as president of Calvary Hospital, a cancer center in the Bronx.

Cahill worked for the Archdiocese of New York in the 1990s, ultimately making her way to the newly formed Catholic Health Initiatives in 1996.
