In a report by ABS-CBN News, the 46-year-old actor said that portraying the current president’s late father in a film is “something interesting” that he’d like to do.
“I expressed my intention to do a Marcos biopic. Ferdinand Marcos, I mean the former president. Kasi I grew up [in that era], I was born in the 70’s, he was still the president back then up to the 80’s. I grew up, my mom was working in Malacanang, so he was a prominent figure in my childhood,” he said.
Moreover, the Mallari star is willing to do the biopic “at the right time,” highlighting the importance of maximizing his potential with the emergence of streaming platforms.
“The door is open. With the emergence of the streaming platforms, mas maganda nang gumawa ng content ngayon kasi mas diverse na yung mga konsepto. Hindi ka na stuck with one genre, one formula.”
In 2002, Pascual starred in the historical drama Dekada ’70, which was set during Marcos’ martial law.
This is not the first time that the local actor has expressed his desire to do acting outside his dabbled rom-com genre.
In February, Piolo portrayed Crisostomo Ibarra in Noli Me Tangere’s musical adaptation, a re-working of playwright and librettist Jomar Fleras’s award-winning Kanser which is known as the longest-running play in the country dating back to the ’80s.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted,” he said during that time.
Meanwhile, in December 2023, the actor starred in thriller flick Mallari, which was inspired by Catholic priest Juan Severino Mallari and how he became the country’s first and only recorded serial killer.
The film reportedly took four years to make and is Piolo’s first horror film since being in the showbiz industry for over two decades.
“I am a religious person but I actually am a fan of horror films. I love watching horror, the supernatural. But since I got stuck with rom-coms, I had no chance to do any horror films,” he said during his contract signing for the movie last June.
