Sharon Cuneta gave her fans a reality check: she and her ex-husband Gabby Concepcion are not getting back together—ever.
On her Instagram account, the Megastar posted a lengthy statement detailing the status of her relationship with Gabby ever since their “Dear Heart” reunion concert ended last October. This was after fans had been clamoring for the two of them to get back together despite them having their own separate families now.
“Reality check: We have not been in touch since our last concert, we do not talk, text, or see each other. We are living totally separate lives and whatever has been going on in mine, he has absolutely nothing to do with, and vice-versa,” Sharon wrote.
“I know that the concerts brought all of you back to happier times, but there is a reason why we have not gotten back together since we broke up in 1987. He is my eldest daughter’s Papa and so he will always be a part of my life and history—but that’s about it. We just couldn’t, cannot live together because we have very, very little in common,” she continued.
According to her, their Dear Heart concert may be the last time that fans will see the two of them share the stage.
“It’s just too complicated when our parties—and we—just somehow cannot communicate and agree on certain things both work-related and not. My team and I have gone above and beyond for him so that Dear Heart could be brought to you, our beloved fans,” she explained.
Sharon then called out to social media users who have been hurling negative statements against her children and urged them to refrain from involving them in the issue.
“They are basically private people, kids pa, and do not deserve all of your negativity. ‘Di sila kasali dito, so I beg you, please stay away from them and leave them in peace. This kind of treatment you give my children is evil and so unwarranted,” the actress stressed.
“This is why I sometimes wish I had never married either Gabby or Kiko—because four innocent souls had to be dragged into their Mama’s complicated life. I beg you to please let them be and leave them alone. Thank you so very much for your understanding,” she ended.
Many of her fans took to the comments section to express their support for her.
“Fans here could really be toxic, ano? Leave them alone as they have their own separate lives already. Grow up! Just be happy they had that concert that they don’t even owe anyone! And yes, leave the kids alone,” one user wrote.
Another one commented, “We must all respect whatever Sharon’s decision, past [or] present. All of us have a different outlook in life, and have different personalities.”
Sharon’s post comes as she and Gabby previously said that they are open to staying in touch, especially for the sake of their daughter, actress KC Concepcion. They revealed that they felt awkward around each other during rehearsals, brought about by their lack of communication for a long time until they reunited.
“In the beginning, very ilang kami. He couldn’t look at me, I didn’t know how to interact with him. Kanina lang kami nag konting warm up,” the Megastar said while laughing during an interview.
The former lovers last worked together for a commercial for a fast-food chain in 2018. They tied the knot in 1984 and welcomed KC a year later, but got legally separated in 1987 until their marriage was finally annulled in 1993.
Sharon is now married to former senator Kiko Pangilinan and shares three children with him, Frankie, Miel, and Miguel. Gabby, on the other hand, is now with Genevieve Gonzales.
