Netflix’s hit and beloved sci-fi action thriller series Stranger Things is officially coming to an end next season, however, its creators are still teasing that spin-off projects may still be on the cards.
While speaking to The Guardian about Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a stage play based on the series, creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer – best known as The Duffer Brothers – teased that the franchise may still live on after the main series ends. Similar to almost every other major franchise these days.
The Duffer Brothers Tease Stranger Things Will Continue With Spinoffs After Season 5
Matt Duffer said during the interview that Netflix “may be” working on some spinoff ideas to keep the Stranger Things franchise creating new content for its viewers – they may even have secret ideas locked already.
While teasing the final season of Stranger Things, Matt told the outlet that season 5 is “like season one on steroids, it’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of scale”.
He continued: “It has been really fun, because everyone’s back together in Hawkins: the boys and Eleven interacting more in line with how it was in season one.”
He then teased spinoffs.
“And, yes, there may be spinoffs”.
Matt Duffer Confirms Who Won’t Be Returing In Future Spinoffs
While practically confirming spinoffs will most likely be made out of Stranger Things, the Duffer brother continued to flat-out confirm who won’t be returning.
Matt continued to explain that the “story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories are done here.”
The characters mentioned are played by Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and David Harbour.
Although the creator didn’t mention every single main character in his statement, it’s assumed that he means every major player in the series won’t be coming back for potential spin-offs – cameos are always possible, but a focused story on any of them seems to be out the question.
He then said “to go see the play” if you “want to see more of some of them”.
Stranger Things season 5 does not yet have a release date.
