It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda is finally returning to the big screen.
The Kapamilya star is set to work on a new movie project with director Jun Lana under Star Cinema and The Idea First Company.
In an announcement made on It’s Showtime, the Unkabogable star said that he is excited to be back with a new movie.
“Magbabalik pelikula po tayo para magbigay ng unkabogability sa buong society,” Vice said, revealing the title of their new film, And the Breadwinner is.
The noontime show host also expressed his excitement about working with Direk Jun for the first time.
“First time namin magkakasama and ang saya ko lang talaga… Highlight ito ng career ko this year, hindi lang this year pati ng movie career ko. Ito yung isa sa mga pinakamalalaking highlights. From Direk Wenn (Deramas) and now ngayon na kay Direk Jun na ako,” Vice stated.
“Ang swerte, swerte ko po na magkakaroon ako ng pelikula kasama si Direk Jun Lana and isusulat nila (Star Cinema),” she added.
Direk Jun also expressed his happiness over working with Vice and having a collaboration project with Star Cinema and The Idea First Company.
“Unang-una, pinapanood ko yung filmmaking journey mo and nagpapasalamat ako that my filmmaking journey led me to this moment. I’m so grateful to be here,” he said.
He went on: “Ito yung unang pagsasanib pwersa namin and collaboration namin ni Vice and ito rin yung unang collaboration ng Star Cinema and Idea First.”
When asked about what the viewers and movie goers would look forward to in their upcoming film, Direk Jun assured that it would be something relatable and full of laughter that will make everyone go back to cinemas again.
“Unang-una bukod sa pagsasama ng style namin which I think will result into something really special. Itong kwento na ito ay napakapersonal at napakaimportante kay Vice and it’s equally important to me and palagay ko maraming manonood ang makarelate dito,” he said.
“Lahat ng inaasahan niyo sa mga pelikula ni Vice, yung saya, yung right to comedy, hindi lang namin basta ibibigay but hihigitan pa namin,” he continued.
Vice also announced that his co-host Jhong Hilario is also part of the film, teasing exciting and funny scenes to look forward to as well.
Although no specific date was announced, the film is set to be released this year.
“Pinapangako namin na hindi matatapos ang taon na hindi namin kayo mapapatawa ni Direk Jun Lana,” Vice promised.
Vice’s last movie project was Partners in Crime with FPJ’s Batang Quiapo star Ivana Alawi in 2022. The Unkabogable Star then took a two-year hiatus from doing film projects.
Meanwhile, Direk Jun worked on three projects last year; Ten Little Mistresses, one of the Metro Manila Film Festival entries Becky & Badette and Your Mother’s Son (Anak Ka Ng Ina Mo), which was screened at the Toronto Film Festival last September 2023 as well as the Tallinn Film Festival in Estonia and the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taipei in November 2023.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, The Idea First Company producer Perci Intalan first revealed the anticipation of the then possible collaboration of Vice and Direk Jun.
“If we really want something for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), gagawin naming maganda. It will really be nice for Vice to work with Jun,” he stated.
He went on: “Ayokong pangunahan kung ano ang status ng project nila. Basta, pareho nilang gusto to work together. They both want to develop an idea of the project they want to do. Jun wants to do something with Vice pero magmamarka pa rin ang style niya (Jun).”
