(G)I-DLE singer Yuqi has dropped the music video for her new solo single, ‘Freak’.
In the music video for ‘Freak’, (G)I-DLE’s Yuqi finds herself haunted by characters from horror music such as Scream, Saw, The Shining and more. But as the weeks go on, she gets used to living with these “freaks”, and soon befriends them and goes on to form a band.
“She’s a certified freak / Ten days a week / The way she’s movin’ got me crazy, got me weak,” the Chinese K-pop idol sings on ‘Freak’. Notably, the song is performed entirely in English.
‘Freak’ is the lead single from (G)I-DLE’s new solo mini-album, ‘YUQ1’. The record also features rapper pH-1 on ‘Drink It Up’, (G)I-DLE bandmate Minnie on ‘Everytime’ and Chinese musician Lexie Liu on ‘On Clap’. The project also includes the pre-release track ‘Could It Be’.
‘YUQ1’ will not be the first time the (G)I-DLE member has pursued solo music. The singer spent majority of 2021 promoting as a solo musician in China, with the release of the single album A Page. which featured the songs ‘Giant’ and ‘Bonnie & Clyde’.
Yuqi’s is the third member of (G)I-DLE to make her solo debut. Leader Soyeon made her solo debut prior to joining the band in 2017, while bandmate Miyeon released her first solo record in 2022.
The band – completed by Minnie and Shuhua – most released their second studio album ‘[2]’ in January, featuring title track ‘Super Lady’. The record also includes the pre-release single ‘Wife’. Shortly after the full album’s release, (G)I-DLE also dropped a music video for B-side track ‘Revenge’.
