Xylaria polymorpha or “Dead Man's Fingers” is a type of fungus that looks very much like the gray fingers of a dead person, often found in forests and wooded areas. This strangely shaped mushroom grows from rotten tree stumps, stretches straight and sticks out from the ground like fingers.
