Why Do Button-Down Shirts Have a Loop on the Back? The Surprising History Behind It
Why some shirts have a loop on the back (and others don’t)

Recently, on social networks, there has been a debate about a group of people living together, but some people get bitten by mosquitoes a lot, while others don't get bitten at all. Accordingly, there is an opinion that people with blood type O are more likely to get bitten by mosquitoes, because this is the specialized blood type. However, some others argue that people who get bitten by mosquitoes have "more fragrant flesh", so they are more likely to attract mosquitoes.
However, the opinion leaning towards the hypothesis of blood type O is the most agreed upon by many people. Ms. Le Ngoc (in Thanh Oai, Hanoi) has blood type O, since she was little she has always been bitten by mosquitoes more than others.
"When I was young, even though I played in the same place, my legs were always bitten by mosquitoes more than my friends. When I was a student, when it was hot, the three of us slept in a rented room without a mosquito net, the other two were fine, but I, wherever there was an open area, I was bitten. It's still the same now, so I'm obsessed with mosquitoes," Ms. Ngoc shared.

Regarding the above information, Dr. Nguyen Van Dung - Head of the Department of Entomology (Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology) said that he himself also received many questions such as: Are people with fragrant meat more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes? People with blood type O are more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes?
According to Dr. Dung, mosquitoes are not attracted by blood type or scent. Mosquitoes are even allergic and very afraid of scents, especially artificial scents on the body. "People who often use perfume, oil, and natural scents from herbs are often not bitten by mosquitoes because they are afraid of these scents, because there are more or less chemicals in them," Mr. Dung explained.
According to Mr. Dung, mosquitoes have receptors located in their antennae, which are the organs that help them orient themselves and find people to bite. This part is also very sensitive to scents, especially those containing chemicals such as perfume, powder, etc.
Explaining why some people get bitten by mosquitoes more, others less, Dr. Dung said that it is due to the pheromone (attractant) secreted in the human body. Those who secrete a lot of pheromone will attract mosquitoes and will be bitten more often.
“In fact, everyone is at risk of being bitten by mosquitoes. However, in a family or in the same population, some people will be bitten more often. That is because this person secretes pheromone that attracts mosquitoes. Depending on each person's constitution, the pheromone secreted will be different. Among them, there are types that attract mosquitoes' receptors and they will seek out these people to bite more,” Mr. Dung shared.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Dung, people who get bitten by mosquitoes a lot are not related to their blood type or natural body odor.
This expert also said that mosquitoes themselves secrete pheromones to attract mates to mate. Normally, male mosquitoes secrete this substance, the most in the late afternoon when they fly in circles. This action is to attract female mosquitoes to mate.
In addition to the above problem, body temperature can also attract more mosquitoes. Specifically, people with higher natural temperatures are more likely to be found by mosquitoes.
Dr. Nguyen Van Dung said that although each person has a different attraction to mosquitoes, everyone is at risk of being bitten by mosquitoes, including many types of mosquitoes that transmit dangerous diseases. Therefore, it is best for everyone to take the initiative to prevent mosquito bites to prevent disease. The best measure is to destroy the nests of larvae and pupae, and at the same time sleep under mosquito nets or spray mosquito repellent according to the instructions of medical staff.
“Mosquitoes may bite people who secrete more pheromones, however, when no one in the same population secretes that substance, mosquitoes can bite anyone. Therefore, everyone should proactively kill mosquitoes and prevent mosquito bites to avoid the risk of contracting diseases caused by mosquito bites,” Dr. Dung advised.
