Misfits Market Review: Discounted Organic Produce Delivered Straight To Your Door! Misfits Market
Don’t judge a book by its cover. The saying holds true for harvested produce as well. Astonishingly, roughly half of all produce in this country is never consumed. You’ll be shocked to learn that the simple reason for this is because some fruits and vegetables were not cosmetically flawless at harvest time.

What Exactly Is “Oddly-Shaped or Funny-Looking” Produce? Anna Onishchuk / Unsplash
Fruits and vegetables come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. If a carrot happens to be somewhat mishappened and twisted, instead of the desired factory-perfect, straight and slender form, it does not mean that the carrot is less than its unblemished counterparts. Yet, these perfectly normal foods are thrown out, when others could enjoy them. How wasteful!
In your Misfits Market box, you may see various produce with natural imperfections or variations, but all are perfectly normal and delicious to eat. Here are some examples of oddly- shaped or funny-looking produce:
apples may have bruising watermelon may have some harmless scarring carrots may be twisted peppers may have a few blemishes squash may be too large a lime may be too small some fruits and vegetables may have lumps and bumps some produce may need more time to ripen there may not have been enough produce to sell in a supermarket How Much Does Misfits Market Cost? Misfits Market: Our Review Misfits Market
For this review, I signed up for Misfits Market Mischief subscription box. Their starter box of 10-13 lbs of produce or 12 pieces of mixed fresh and organic mixed fruits and vegetables at $22 per week. I figured that it would suit my small family of three perfectly as we try out our first box.
I’ve tried several subscriptions and was eager to see how Misfits Market stacked up to the rest in regards to how they packaged their products. I was not disappointed. The Misfits Market box itself was bright and cheery, as any carton with a bushel of healthy, colorful food should be!
Inside, the assortment of fruits and veggies were carefully cradled with insulation, and multiple ice packs to keep the produce cool and fresh. More sensitive items, such as lettuce, were packaged individually in compostable plant-based bags. I appreciated that the lettuce wasn’t just thrown into the mix, and the personal bag offered some protection from being rattled around.
On top of the packaged insulation were informative cards, offering insight into marketplace add-ons, as well as a featured recipe that could be used with the produce inside the box.
As I peered in the opened box, I was pleasantly greeted with a vibrant rainbow of color! I couldn’t wait to unpack all of my healthy treasures onto the counter. I was also curious to investigate the ugly and oddly shaped produce.
As I went through the fruits and vegetables, I didn’t find any ugly produce. Honestly, most appeared normal to me, aside from a few that were strangely beautiful. A few of my rainbow carrots were oddly shaped, twisted, smaller, or larger than the rest. My red Barlett Pears were lumpy or shared striking patterns of color, rather than a shade of red; they were half green and red. A cucumber was bent, rather than straight. Nothing too bizarre here, which I suppose makes it an even sadder realization about how wasteful our food economy can be.

In my Misfits Market box I received the following:
4 yellow bell peppers 1 spaghetti squash 1 zucchini 2 green peppers 3 red Bartlett Pears Romaine lettuce Roma tomatoes 1 mango 6 red baker potatoes 4 oranges 2 cucumbers 8 rainbow carrots
If you’re a fruit and vegetable loving household, then this is a wonderful way to get a hold of healthy organic produce at an affordable price! I also recommend Misfits Market to those that are looking to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into their diet. Getting a box of produce delivered to my front-door encouraged me to include these foods into my daily menu. I highly recommend that everyone gives it a try!
