On March 7, Can Tho Central General Hospital announced that the hospital's doctors had successfully performed endovascular intervention to block a large renal artery pseudoaneurysm in a male patient with severe kidney injury.

Mr. T.V.C. (38 years old, residing in Bac Lieu province) was admitted to the hospital with dark red urine, severe anemia, and abdominal pain. Mr. C. said he started having abdominal pain and blood in his urine after a strong fall 1 month ago.

After examination, the doctor recorded that Mr. C. had a grade IV kidney injury, right renal pelvis effusion, and blood in the bladder. Mr. C.'s right renal artery had a large pseudoaneurysm and strong flow with a length of 6cm and a diameter of 5cm.

The doctors decided to perform endovascular intervention to treat Mr. C's injury. The method was minimally invasive but optimally effective.

Dr. Truong Minh Khoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Can Tho Central General Hospital, said that kidney injuries account for more than 10% of cases of closed abdominal trauma, mainly caused by traffic accidents. This is a serious injury, and the patient can die. According to Mr. Khoa, in the past, the treatment of severe kidney injuries was mainly open surgery to remove part or all of the kidney. Currently, the method of selective and super-selective renal artery occlusion is widely applied, effective and safe, helping patients recover quickly.
