Cancer is considered one of the most dangerous diseases affecting human health. Experts say cancer does not occur randomly; instead, it often targets people with certain habits and health conditions.
Many studies have shown that lack of sleep, overworking, and prolonged stress can weaken the immune system — the body’s natural defense against abnormal cells.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), chronic sleep deprivation may disrupt melatonin production, affecting the body’s ability to repair damaged DNA. Meanwhile, long-term stress increases cortisol levels, which can promote inflammation and create conditions favorable for disease development, including cancer.
People who regularly sleep less than six hours a night or experience high work pressure should pay close attention to their health and maintain proper rest habits.
Nutrition experts warn that diets high in processed foods, charred grilled foods, alcohol, and low in vegetables may significantly increase cancer risk.
The WHO estimates that around 30–40% of cancer cases are linked to lifestyle and dietary factors. Processed meats such as sausages and bacon have been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as potentially cancer-causing.
In addition, excessive sugar and unhealthy fat consumption can lead to obesity — a major risk factor for cancers of the liver, colon, breast, and pancreas.
A diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains while limiting industrially processed foods is considered an important protective barrier for the body.
Smoking remains one of the leading causes of cancer worldwide. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds of toxic substances and at least 70 known carcinogens.
Smoking is linked not only to lung cancer but also to cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, and bladder. Meanwhile, excessive alcohol consumption can damage cells and increase the risk of liver, stomach, and colorectal cancers.
Notably, the risk becomes significantly higher when a person both smokes and drinks heavily on a regular basis.
