Puppy was found in woods, tied up in drawstring bag and left for dead — now he has a happy ending
The sight of an abandoned puppy is truly heartbreaking, and it’s unbelievable that some people would discard animals like that. But thankfully, there are also kind people willing to step up and give these pets a second chance.
That was the case recently, when a puppy was found in a park tied up in a drawstring bag — but now the sweet pup has a happy ending.
The 3-month-old puppy, now known as Ryder, was found on April 24 at L.J. Smith Park in Hamilton, Ohio. It was evident that the dog had been left for dead: he was tied up in a drawstring bag, left with no food or water.
“I assumed somebody put it out there to die and be done with the dog,” said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones. “It’s really a tragedy.”
Ryder was taken in by the Animal Friends Humane Society, who reported that the puppy was “lethargic and weak,” but soon regained some of his strength and was “alert, curious, and ready to eat.”
Police began an investigation into the dog’s abandonment, and says later made an arrest in the case: Harold Dean Lilly was reportedly charged with two second-degree misdemeanors, cruelty to a companion animal and abandoning animals, per WLWT. He is awaiting an appearance in Hamilton Municipal Court.
Meanwhile, Ryder got some incredible news: he was adopted!
On May 17, Animal Friends Humane Society announced on Facebook that Ryder had been adopted by a “wonderful couple.”
“We are so happy for him to start his life with his new parents and dog siblings,” the rescue wrote. “We would like to thank everyone that has followed Ryder’s story and donated to him and the others in our care. Without our supporters, we would not be able to save lives like Ryder’s.”
It’s heartbreaking that Ryder was abandoned and left for dead in such a horrible way, but we’re glad he’s in great hands now with his new family!
