Reminder: No Matter How Hungry You Are, Avoid These 4 Foods—They Fill You Up Temporarily but Slowly Damage Your Sto.mach and Sp.leen

Not all foods are suitable for satisfying hunger. Eating recklessly can come at a high cost to your health!

Hunger often drives people to grab whatever is available without considering the long-term consequences. However, some seemingly harmless foods can severely damage the stomach and spleen when eaten on an empty stomach. Here are four types of food you should avoid when hungry:

1. Spicy and Hot Foods

Dishes like spicy hotpot, spicy noodles, and spicy chicken wings may be flavorful, but consuming them on an empty stomach can lead to excessive stomach acid secretion, causing discomfort, burning sensations, and even stomach lining damage. The high capsaicin content in chili can also overstimulate the stomach, leading to bloating and nausea.

In traditional medicine, spicy foods are believed to disrupt spleen function, causing digestive imbalances, diarrhea, or constipation. Over time, this habit can weaken the digestive system, making it less efficient.

2. Certain Fruits High in Organic Acids and Tannins

Fruits like persimmons, unripe bananas, soursop, hawthorn, figs, and pineapples contain significant amounts of tannins or organic acids. Eating them on an empty stomach can stimulate excess stomach acid production, leading to stomach pain and increasing the risk of ulcers. Additionally, persimmons and unripe bananas contain tannins that can combine with stomach acid to form indigestible food masses, causing digestive issues.

These sour and astringent fruits can also weaken the spleen, leading to bloating, poor digestion, and reduced nutrient absorption. Over time, this can result in fatigue and weakness due to an inefficient digestive system.

3. Carbonated Drinks and Coffee

Many people drink coffee or carbonated beverages on an empty stomach to stay alert. However, these drinks can increase stomach acid levels, irritate the stomach lining, and lead to acid reflux or stomach pain. Caffeine also stimulates the nervous system, boosting cortisol (the stress hormone), which can contribute to long-term fatigue.

According to traditional medicine, consuming coffee and carbonated drinks on an empty stomach weakens spleen function, impairing digestion and nutrient absorption. Over time, this can cause bloating, loss of appetite, and overall health decline.

4. Pickled and Fermented Foods

Pickled foods like salted vegetables, kimchi, and pickled eggplants are often eaten as appetizers to enhance flavor. However, they contain high levels of organic acids that can trigger excessive stomach acid secretion, leading to heartburn, stomach irritation, and even pain when consumed on an empty stomach.

Beyond the stomach, eating pickled foods on an empty stomach can also disrupt the digestive function of the small intestine and pancreas—two organs crucial for digestion and nutrient absorption. Long-term damage to the digestive system can lead to nutrient deficiencies, fatigue, and overall health deterioration. Additionally, excessive consumption of pickled foods may increase nitrite formation, which, when combined with stomach acid, can produce nitrosamines—compounds linked to a higher risk of stomach and esophageal cancer.

Conclusion:
To protect your digestive health, avoid these foods when hungry. Instead, opt for gentle, easily digestible options that provide energy without harming your stomach and spleen.
