‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Doesn’t Believe Johnny Depp Will Return to the Franchsie

Despite believing Johnny Depp “deserves another shot” as Jack Sparrow, PotC star Vince Lozano doesn’t see it happening.

Pirates of the Caribbean fans have been riding rough seas recently, with constant counter-currents over whether the franchise will be making a return, and more importantly whether Johnny Depp will be on deck as Captain Jack Sparrow. Prior to his legal battles with Amber Heard, it seemed certain that Depp would be reprising his role once more as the drunken scallywag of a pirate. Since the court drama came to a conclusion, there have been some people say he will return, some say he won’t and others have suggested that a possible Margot Robbie-led reboot is more the way to go.

Adding his thoughts into the murky pool, original Pirates actor Vince Lozano recently spoke with Movieweb about his time working on The Curse of the Black Pearl, which is in comprehensibly celebrating its 20th anniversary, and gave his view on Depp’s possible future involvement in the Disney franchise. He said of his memories working on the movie:

“Hanging out with [other] pirates, telling stories, building some camaraderie, making jokes on each other of course. Hanging out with Geoffrey Rush, talking about acting, life; same thing with Johnny Depp. Asking him, ‘How did you come up with this character? ‘He would tell me stories about how he did it, jumping into a pool, coming out cold and thinking about how British musician Keith Richards moved his body. Johnny is one of the best people you’ll ever meet.”

Adding his opinion on the subject of Depp, he said:

“I think he deserves another shot as Jack, but I don’t think it’s going to happen, I’m hearing a lot of stories out there. The audience is there though. I do a lot of pirate conventions and there’s such a big subculture of people that dress up like pirates, and they love Johnny.”
