Actor Song Joong-ki addressed the controversy surrounding his past interview about “career break”, expressing his regret for his choice of words
Song Joong-ki, who participated in the movie “Hopeless” (directed by Kim Chang-hoon), shared various stories surrounding the work through an interview held in Jongno-gu, Seoul on September 25th.
“Hopeless” is a neo-noir thriller film about a boy named Yeon-gyu (Hong Xa-bin), who wants to escape from the hellish reality, meeting an organization’s middle boss Chi-geon (Song Joong-ki) and experiencing the dangerous world together. It is scheduled to be released theatrically on October 11th.
This film marks Song Joong-ki’s return to the screen after marrying former British actress Katy Louise Saunders earlier this year and becoming a father in June.
Song Joongki described ‘Hopeless’ as “a thought-provoking film. He expressed his hope that the feelings he had after reading the script would come across, emphasizing the importance of adults not losing their courage and leading children toward a better world.
Song Joongki also mentioned that he starred in ‘Hopeless’ without pay. He shared that he has a children’s foundation to which he donates once a year and that even when making donations, it’s ultimately for his own satisfaction. Song Joongki feels rewarding to contribute to the world and that his appearance without pay in ‘Hopeless’ was also something he did for himself.
In a previous interview with a Chinese media outlet a few months ago, Song Joongki addressed concerns about a “career break” after becoming a husband and father, saying that family is more important to him than his career.
This interview faced with divided opinions from netizens. Song Joongki has been actively involved in activities since getting married, so the concept of a “career break” seems inconsistent with his actions.
Regarding this, Song Joongki mentioned in the recent interview that he saw news about his remarks after receiving messages from friends. He acknowledged that aside from translation issues, what he said might have been uncomfortable for some to hear. So, he reflected on the need to be more careful with his words, as he may not have expressed himself well.
