Fifteen-gear-old Krystal Mejes won the Best Actress award at the Paris Film Awards for her performance in the short film ‘Matapang.’
Fifteen-year-old Star Magic artist Krystal Mejes is still on cloud nine after she won Best Actress at the Paris Film Awards for her performance in the short film Matapang.
“Hanggang ngayon hindi pa nga siya nagsi-sink in sa akin. Feeling ko po panaginip lang siya ngayon. It’s very, very surreal. It feels very unreal to me hanggang ngayon,” she said in an interview with PUSH.
She continued: “Whenever I think about it, sabi ko is this real? Talaga? I just won Best Actress or maybe I’m just dreaming?”
The young actress remarked that she is very thankful for this opportunity that came her way.
“I’m just really, really grateful for all the blessings that I have in my life right now and for every opportunity that is in my life right now,” she stated.
Krystal shared that she auditioned for her role in the short film before the pandemic.
“Akala ko nga po hindi na siya matutuloy because nagka-pandemic tayo but during the pandemic naman po nagko-contact pa rin ako with the producers and the directors. So they just called me na lang po that we’re gonna do the film and they asked me to fly to Manila to shoot,” she said.
The short film was shot in February 2022.
In the short film, Krystal portrays the role of Mary Ann, the daughter of a sex worker who is on a quest to find her biological father.
When asked to describe her role, she shared: “My role here, it conveys a lot of emotions especially the deep ones… It’s a really, really challenging role for me especially that I am just a young actress tapos I was willing to do this kind of role. [It’s] very substantial, very deep, very emotional, [and] very provoking.”
The actress shared that the producer of the film is planning to expand Matapang into a full-length feature.
“They are planning to do a full-length one and ipapalabas siya dito sa Philippines and sa ibang countries,” she relayed.
