Eating eggs this way: many people are unknowingly “inviting trouble”
Eggs are a nutritious and familiar food in daily meals. However, if they are not combined and prepared properly, eggs can become a cause of various health problems. Below are some major “don’ts” to avoid when eating eggs in order to protect your family’s health.
Do not eat soft-boiled or raw eggs
Many people like soft-boiled eggs because they believe this preserves more nutrients. However, this habit is dangerous. Raw or soft-boiled eggs may contain Salmonella bacteria, which can cause serious food poisoning with symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and high fever.
Fully cooking eggs is the only way to eliminate this bacteria and ensure food safety. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems should strictly avoid undercooked eggs.
Do not combine eggs with soy milk
For a long time, having eggs with soy milk for breakfast has been a common habit in many families. However, nutrition experts advise against consuming these two foods together.
Soy milk contains a trypsin inhibitor that reduces the activity of protein-digesting enzymes in the body, while eggs are very rich in protein. When eaten at the same time, the protein from eggs is not fully absorbed, reducing the nutritional value of the meal.
Do not eat eggs together with pork brain
Both eggs and pork brain contain very high levels of cholesterol. When eaten together, the body absorbs a large amount of cholesterol, which can easily lead to cardiovascular problems such as atherosclerosis and high blood pressure. For better health, these foods should be prepared separately and consumed in moderation.
Do not eat cracked or damaged eggs
Eggshells protect the egg white and yolk inside. When the shell is cracked or damaged, bacteria from the outside—especially Salmonella—can easily enter the egg and contaminate it. Eating contaminated eggs can cause food poisoning. When buying eggs, check carefully to make sure the shells are intact. Cracked or damaged eggs should be discarded.
Do not eat eggs that have been left overnight
Cooked eggs left overnight can become an ideal environment for bacterial growth, especially E. coli. Boiled eggs, fried eggs, or other egg dishes can spoil easily if not stored properly in the refrigerator. For safety, it is best to eat eggs immediately after cooking. If you need to store them, place them in a sealed container, keep them refrigerated, and consume them within the day.
Do not eat too many eggs at once
Although eggs are very nutritious, eating too many in a day can be harmful. Healthy adults should eat only about 3–4 eggs per week. People with heart disease, high blood cholesterol, or those following special diets should consult a doctor or nutritionist to determine an appropriate amount of eggs to consume.
