Girl shows unique trick to avoid hidden cameras in hotel

A young woman with the surname Dang, from the city of Luoyang, Henan Province, shared a video on social media demonstrating how to avoid hidden cameras when staying in a hotel. Her creative method quickly caught the attention of online users.

In the video, she sets up a makeshift tent using simple and easily accessible materials. She uses a large piece of fabric and a string to create the tent, placing it directly on the bed. The string is tied to high points in the room, such as cabinet handles, curtain rods, and wall hooks. According to her, this method helps shield against the "curious eyes" of hidden surveillance devices.

"This method is very easy to make, low-cost, and quite effective. I only used a piece of fabric and a long string," Dang shared.

The makeshift tent is 1.7 meters tall, 2 meters long, and 2 meters wide, providing enough space to protect the person lying on the bed from being monitored.

Although she didn't reveal the name of the hotel or the specific location, she mentioned that there have been many reports of hotels using hidden cameras to monitor guests, which made her feel unsafe.

"I thought about buying a small tent to take with me when traveling, but the cost of these tents is quite high and the space is limited. So, I decided to use this simple method," she said.

Concerns about spy cameras in hotel rooms are not uncommon. Cases where hotels have been found to have hidden surveillance devices in guest rooms have drawn significant attention on social media.

In 2023, a couple from China discovered a hidden camera in an electrical socket on the wall of their Airbnb room in Malaysia, aimed directly at their bed. They immediately notified the police and requested an investigation.

In February 2025, Guangdong Province became the first region in China to implement a regulation requiring hotels not to install surveillance devices in guest rooms to protect the privacy of tourists.

Dang’s solution has been praised by many Chinese internet users. "She's so creative and smart. This is a simple yet very effective way to protect our privacy," one user commented.

However, some people pointed out that this method might not be effective in protecting privacy while using the bathroom or showering in a hotel room.
