Simple tips for cleaning your phone's speaker at home
After a period of use, dust can accumulate on the phone’s speaker, causing the sound quality to decrease. You can clean the phone’s speaker to have a better experience when using the device.
The phone’s speaker is an area that is very prone to dust. This not only affects the aesthetics but also impacts the sound quality of the device, making the sound quieter or distorted.
Although having a dirty speaker is not a serious issue, to prevent the sound quality from being affected, you should clean the speaker.
Before cleaning your phone's speaker, make sure to turn off the device. Also, prepare a cleaning kit for phones and computers (which can be found on e-commerce sites), cotton swabs or a soft cloth, alcohol or phone cleaning solution, and a mini vacuum cleaner (usually used for cleaning phones and computers).
1. Cleaning the Phone's Speaker with Soft Materials
You need to identify the location of the phone's speaker before cleaning. Typically, the speaker on an iPhone is located on the left and right of the charging port. For Android phones, the speaker can be on the left or right of the charging port.
You can use soft materials like cotton swabs to gently swirl into the speaker slots to remove the dust inside. You can also use a soft-bristled brush to push the dust out of the phone’s speaker. When using a brush, move it up and down and back and forth to remove as much dust as possible.
If you have 70% alcohol, you can dip a cotton swab into the alcohol and wipe the phone's speaker. Alcohol evaporates very quickly, so after wiping, simply place the phone in a well-ventilated area, and the alcohol will evaporate.
2. Cleaning the Phone's Speaker with Tape
You can roll a piece of tape into a tube, with the sticky side facing out. Insert this sticky tape tube into the phone's speaker. The dust on the speaker will quickly stick to the tape. Replace the tape with a new piece and repeat the process until the speaker is clean enough.
You can also stick a piece of tape onto the surface of the phone’s speaker. Use a small toothpick to gently press the tape into the speaker’s slot so that the dust sticks to the tape. Peel off the tape, repeat the process until the phone's speaker is clean.
3. Cleaning the Phone's Speaker with a Compressed Air Can
You can invest in a compressed air can to blow dust out of the phone’s speaker. These products are available at electronics stores. Before use, be sure to carefully read the instructions on the product packaging. It is advisable to test the air can a few times to make sure it works properly. Then, place the nozzle of the can into the speaker slot and blow 3-4 bursts of air. Be careful not to place the nozzle too close to the speaker, and keep a certain distance to avoid strong pressure from the air damaging the phone's components.
4. Cleaning the Phone's Speaker with Sound
In addition to manual cleaning, you can use sound to clean the dust from the phone's speaker. Some software applications use sound to clean phone speakers, such as Frequency Sound Generator, Speaker Cleaner, and Sonic.
5. Cleaning the Phone's Jack Ports
Besides cleaning the speaker, you can clean the phone's jack ports in a similar way.
