If you wake up in the morning and see your body has these 2 characteristics, be careful, your liver is on the "brink" of failure

The Liver Sends 2 Early Morning Warning Signs When It's in Trouble

The liver is a vital organ responsible for numerous essential functions. It metabolizes nutrients, produces bile to digest fats, regulates hormones, stores vitamins and minerals, and plays a key role in immune defense.

When the liver is damaged, these functions are compromised. Without early detection and timely treatment, liver problems can worsen and seriously impact overall health. Therefore, recognizing the early warning signs of liver issues is crucial. In fact, the body often sends out two specific signals in the morning after waking that may indicate liver dysfunction.

Two Unusual Morning Signs That May Signal Liver Disease

1. Persistent Fatigue Upon Waking

Normally, after a good night's sleep, people wake up feeling refreshed and energized. However, if you consistently wake up feeling tired, sluggish, or unusually sleepy for several consecutive days, it could be a sign of liver disease.

According to Verywell Health, the liver is responsible for storing, producing, and releasing energy. When it becomes impaired, these processes are disrupted, leading to energy deficiency and resulting in persistent fatigue.

Additionally, liver problems can negatively affect sleep quality, contributing to sleep disturbances. Reports indicate that approximately 60–80% of people with chronic liver disease experience poor sleep quality, often struggling with insomnia or fragmented sleep. This, in turn, leads to increased fatigue in the morning.

2. Dark-Colored Urine

The British newspaper Express reports that urine color can be an indicator of liver health. Normally, healthy urine is light yellow. However, if you notice your urine is unusually dark during your morning bathroom visit, it could signal liver dysfunction.

This occurs because a weakened liver is unable to properly eliminate bilirubin—a yellow pigment produced during the breakdown of red blood cells. When bilirubin builds up in the bloodstream, it may pass into the urinary tract, turning the urine dark.

In addition to dark urine, a buildup of bilirubin can also cause symptoms such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin) and yellowing of the sclera (whites of the eyes).

Other Possible Liver-Related Symptoms

Besides these two morning symptoms, other signs of liver problems may include:

  • Persistent fatigue

  • Loss of appetite

  • Itchy skin

  • Discomfort or pain in the upper right abdomen

  • Pale or clay-colored stools

What You Should Do

Medical experts advise that if you notice any of the above symptoms, especially persistent morning fatigue or dark urine, you should seek medical attention promptly. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are key to preventing serious liver complications.
