I Couldn't Stop Looking at It
Despite feeling uneasy, I was curious.
The object still hadn't made any dramatic movement.
It wasn't racing across the floor or jumping toward me. In fact, if I had glanced at it for only a second, I probably still would have assumed it was some kind of debris.
But I had already spent too long looking at it.
Something about the texture continued to bother me.
So I slowly moved closer again.
Not close enough to touch it, obviously.
I just wanted a better look.
I focused on its shape.
It appeared somewhat elongated but contracted, almost as though its body could stretch farther than its current size suggested. Its edges weren't perfectly fixed. The surface had the sort of uneven appearance that made it seem biological rather than manufactured.
Then I noticed it.
Movement.
It was incredibly subtle.
There was no dramatic wriggling. No sudden burst of motion.
Just a slight change in position.
But that was enough.
I froze.
For a moment, I wondered whether I had imagined it.
So I kept watching.
Another tiny movement followed.
That settled the question.
This wasn't plastic.
It wasn't rubber.
It wasn't a wet piece of tissue or something from the drain.
It was alive.
The Mystery Suddenly Became Much More Real
Once I knew I was dealing with a living creature, my curiosity became much stronger.
