For Emily and her family, however, the story was far from over.

The public had celebrated a miracle, but the family still faced practical questions, emotional challenges, and an investigation that required time. They needed privacy, stability, and the freedom to recover without being asked to perform their happiness for strangers.

Sarah eventually returned to Emily's bedroom and opened the curtains.

Sunlight fell across the bookshelf. The stuffed rabbit remained on the bed, smaller than Sarah remembered.

For a moment, she stood in the doorway and thought about all the birthdays, holidays, and ordinary afternoons they had lost.

Then she heard footsteps behind her.

Emily was standing in the hall.

“Can I keep this room the way it is for now?” she asked.

Sarah turned toward her.

“Of course. We can change it whenever you want.”

Emily looked around the room, then back at her mother.

“I don't remember everything,” she said.

Sarah felt the old ache rise in her chest, but she did not let it become another question Emily had to answer.

“You don't have to remember everything today.”

Emily nodded.
