The Benefits of a Sponge for the Refrigerator

Keeps food fresh longer
Typically, fruits and vegetables stay fresh longer when stored in the refrigerator. However, the low temperature inside the fridge causes fruits and vegetables to absorb excess moisture, losing their original flavor.
With a sponge, you can solve this problem. First, remove the fruits and vegetables from their designated compartment in the fridge. Next, place two water-filled sponges at the bottom of the compartment. Then, put the fruits and vegetables back in the fridge, and they will stay fresh because the sponge helps to maintain moisture levels.
If you need to take food outside but it needs to stay cool to avoid spoiling, you should also use a sponge. Simply place a sponge that has been in the freezer for at least one night in a plastic bag. Push all the air out of the bag, tie it tightly, and then place the sponge bag with the food. This will keep the food fresh.
Using a sponge to save electricity
First, soak the sponge in water to absorb as much moisture as possible. Then, place the sponge in a plastic bag, tie it tightly, and place it in the freezer.
This sponge will help regulate the temperature and keep the refrigerator cool even when the door is opened and closed frequently. As a result, the refrigerator uses less energy.
Eliminating bad odors in the refrigerator
If your refrigerator has an unpleasant odor, think of the sponge. Simply pour some white vinegar onto the sponge and place it directly in the fridge to neutralize the smell.
White vinegar, being acidic, can neutralize alkaline odor-causing compounds. Additionally, the sponge's pores physically absorb the odor. This helps reduce bad smells and resolves common household nuisances.
Other uses for a sponge
Preventing breakage of fragile items
When transporting glass, ceramic, or porcelain items, you need to secure them to prevent breaking. Place the fragile items in a box, then line the sides with sponges to cushion them. This way, when lifting, setting down, or moving the box, the items won’t bump against each other and break.
Dusting woolen clothes
Woolen clothes tend to attract dust. To quickly and conveniently remove dust, use a clean sponge to gently wipe over the fabric. It will ensure that the dust and lint vanish easily.
Planting seeds
Place a sponge on a plate or a pot, then put your seeds on top of the sponge. Be sure to leave enough space between the seeds for growth. Afterward, place a plate or a glass bowl underneath. Keep the plant in a sunny spot and wait for the seeds to sprout.
