1. Not Turning on the Range Hood or Turning It Off Too Soon
When cooking, you may feel uncomfortable because of excessive smoke but feel too lazy to turn on the range hood, or you turn it off immediately after finishing cooking. If so, be careful—this habit may increase the risk of lung cancer for you and your family.
The range hood is an essential appliance in the kitchen. However, many people treat it as mere decoration and rarely turn it on while cooking. Cooking fumes are one of the main causes of indoor air pollution. In particular, many households nowadays keep the kitchen door closed while cooking, which makes smoke-related air pollution even more severe.
Long-term exposure to cooking oil fumes can cause sore throat, rhinitis, bronchitis, and in more serious cases, lung cancer.
2. Using Aluminum Cookware
Aluminum pots and pans are lightweight, inexpensive, and convenient. But did you know that aluminum cookware may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease? Aluminum can accumulate in the human body, damage the nervous system, and lead to symptoms such as memory loss and emotional disorders.
Under high temperatures or in acidic or alkaline environments, aluminum cookware can release aluminum ions that leach into food and then enter the human body.
