Discover 8 surprising uses of sponges besides washing dishes
Sponges have long been a familiar and indispensable item in every family. Although small and simple, this item possesses many useful functions that you may not have discovered yet. Don't rush to throw away old sponges because they can be reused in the following 8 creative ways:
1. Start a mini garden
Have you ever dreamed of owning a cool green corner in your house or growing clean vegetables at home but don't know where to start? Take advantage of the sponge right away! The method is extremely simple: place the sponge on a plate or pot, then place the seeds on top (note that the distance between the seeds is wide enough for them to grow). Place a glass bowl underneath to hold the water and place the pot in a place with full light. Just wait patiently, you will see the green shoots gradually appear.
2. Automatic watering for plants
Once the seedlings have started to grow, you can use a sponge to ensure that the plants are always provided with enough water. Cut the sponge to fit the bottom of the pot, fill it with soil and place the plant on top. The sponge will help maintain a stable humidity for the plant without causing waterlogging, helping the plant to be healthier.
3. Absorb moisture in the refrigerator
Some foods such as fruits (especially oranges and lemons) are susceptible to spoilage when exposed to a humid environment. To prolong their freshness, place a dry sponge in the refrigerator after adjusting the humidity to low. The sponge will absorb excess moisture, helping your food stay fresh longer.
4. Convenient moisture supply
Instead of using saliva or water in a cup to wet the edges of envelopes or stickers, you can use a damp sponge. This method is not only more hygienic but also creates a good habit for yourself.
4. Portable Ice Pack
This is a favorite trick of many people. Wet a sponge, squeeze out excess water, and place it in a zip-top bag before placing it in the freezer. When needed, you can use this ice pack to keep food cold in a lunchbox or picnic bag.
6. Protective padding
With its ability to bend flexibly and adapt to any space, sponges are a great choice for protecting small, fragile items such as jewelry, cosmetics, or decorations. Simply cut the sponge into the appropriate size and place it in a container.
7. Remove wallpaper glue stains
When peeling off old wallpaper, you often encounter annoying glue stains. Soak the sponge in a solution of fabric softener and hot water, then wring it out and gently wipe it on the wall. The glue will gradually loosen and the wallpaper removal will become much easier.
8. Protect your floor from scratches
Instead of buying felt floor protectors, you can make use of sponges by cutting them into small pieces and attaching them to the legs of chairs and sofas with glue. This will help avoid deep scratches on the floor, while reducing noise when moving furniture.
So, although the sponge is small, it has many interesting uses. Try applying the above tips to turn them into versatile "assistants" in your daily life!
