Helps the toilet always smell fresh

Keep This Leaf in Your Bathroom to Eliminate Odors and Repel Mosquitoes and Flies

The bathroom is a frequently used space that often develops unpleasant odors. Typically, bathrooms are enclosed, lack proper ventilation, and aren’t exposed to sunlight, making them consistently damp and prone to foul smells. Additionally, infrequent cleaning of the toilet, drains, and other fixtures—or blockages in these systems—can also contribute to bad odors.

Regular bathroom cleaning is essential for maintaining a healthy living environment. You should clean the toilet regularly, and the bathroom floor and drain covers need to be kept spotless.

To eliminate bathroom odors and repel nuisance insects such as flies, mosquitoes, and cockroaches, you can try the following methods:

Odor Removal with Lemongrass

All you need is a simple ingredient—lemongrass.

Lemongrass has a naturally fragrant aroma that effectively masks unpleasant bathroom odors. Moreover, it acts as a natural repellent for various insects.

Choose mature bunches of lemongrass and crush the stalks thoroughly to release a stronger scent. Hang the bunch in your bathroom to help eliminate odors. When the lemongrass wilts and loses its fragrance, replace it with a fresh bunch to maintain its effectiveness.

Odor Removal with Pineapple Leaves

Pineapple leaves (or sticky rice leaves) have a natural, pleasant aroma that can effectively remove unpleasant smells in the bathroom. You can purchase a bunch of fresh leaves and hang them in your bathroom. The natural fragrance helps freshen the air and make the space smell cleaner. When the leaves wilt, replace them with new ones to keep the effect going.

Odor Removal with Pineapple

For this method, prepare a ripe pineapple and a small candle. Pineapple’s natural aroma helps eliminate musty or damp odors in the bathroom. Ripe pineapples emit a stronger fragrance.

Before starting, ensure the bathroom is thoroughly cleaned.

  • Cut off one end of the pineapple and scoop out the inner flesh.
  • Cut a large opening in the pineapple’s skin.
  • Stand the pineapple upright on a plate.
  • Place a small candle inside and light it.

The heat from the candle will help release the pineapple’s fragrance. Be sure to monitor the burning candle to prevent it from igniting any nearby objects.

Odor Removal with Baking Soda or White Salt

Both baking soda and white salt are natural substances that effectively clean and neutralize odors.

  • Fill a jar with baking soda. If you have essential oil available, mix it with the baking soda.
  • Place the jar in a corner of the bathroom, and it will quickly absorb the unpleasant odors. The baking soda traps the smells, while the essential oil adds a natural fragrance.

If you don’t have baking soda, you can use white salt as a substitute. Alternatively, if essential oil is not available, you may use medicated oil or fabric softener as a complement.

Odor Removal with Indoor Plants

Some plants naturally purify the air and can adapt to the damp, low-light environment of a bathroom. Consider growing plants such as pothos, snake plant, aloe vera, mint, or ivy to help eliminate odors and freshen up the space.

Although these plants can thrive in low-light conditions, it’s still a good idea to periodically take them outside to “sunbathe,” which helps them grow better.

By incorporating these natural remedies, you can maintain a fresher, more inviting bathroom environment while keeping unwanted pests at bay.
