Strange story is true
The marriage of a petite woman who is less than 1 meter tall to a healthy, strong man has garnered a lot of attention, especially when their child was born. The family was moved to tears when they saw the baby.
Trịnh Minh Diễm (born in 1989) had a congenital condition called brittle bone disease, which made her body fragile and prone to bone fractures. Her legs were deformed, and she had to rely on crutches to walk. By adulthood, she was less than 1 meter tall.
Due to her poor health, Diễm had to quit school early. In 2012, she discovered a performance troupe for disabled people on the internet and invited her younger sister, who shared a similar situation, to apply. The two of them, along with five others, formed a group and toured many places.
In 2016, Diễm met a man online who was interested in buying her a gift and chatting with her. He had been divorced, with three children and a large burden of supporting his family. They shared their struggles and gradually began to encourage and support one another.
"One day, he said he wanted to marry me, hoping we could live together until the end of our lives. I thought he was joking. He was healthy, and we lived far apart. He was 1.68 meters tall, almost twice my height. How could he like me? I never thought about love or marriage. It seemed like a luxury to me."
He later expressed a desire to meet her, but Diễm initially refused. She thought he was just talking without serious intent and also wanted to maintain her dignity. She didn’t think much of his words because she feared she might be the one hurt by it.
In November 2018, the man came to meet her. "He came directly to where we were performing to find me. When I was singing, I saw him in the crowd. I smiled at him, and he shyly smiled back."
When he was around her, he didn't care about her appearance. It was his love and sincerity that moved Diễm. "He stayed for a week and took care of me. He carried me up and down the stairs and helped me wash my hair. He didn't know how to comb my hair or tie it, but he insisted on doing it for me. I was deeply touched by his sincerity and unknowingly opened my heart to him," Diễm shared.
In 2019, they began to consider getting married. Diễm’s parents fully supported it, but his family opposed it.
What was especially moving was how his children treated Diễm as a stepmother. She recalled, "I remember one day, his family went to a wedding in the village, and I stayed at home. Later, they returned with food for me. I asked, 'Why did you bring food for me?' The child replied, 'I brought it for you because you haven’t eaten anything yet.' I was touched and shed tears."
"When we went out, my boyfriend would hug me, and his kids would help carry my crutches. His children, though young, were very thoughtful and considerate. Every time we bought food, they always remembered me and asked their father to buy me a portion."
In March 2020, they officially registered their marriage. Not long after, Diễm unexpectedly found out she was pregnant. She was both happy and worried about the baby’s health. After much consideration, the couple decided to keep the child.
During her pregnancy, Diễm faced many challenges and exhaustion. Even breathing was difficult for her. Fortunately, the baby was born healthy at eight and a half months. The family was moved to tears, overwhelmed with happiness.
During her confinement, Diễm received careful care from her mother and husband. As her health gradually recovered, she returned to performing and singing to support her family. Reflecting on her life, Diễm shared that despite the many difficulties she had faced, she still loved life and kept moving forward, refusing to give up in the face of adversity.
"Life is hard for everyone, but for people like me, it's even harder. Not only do I have to struggle to make a living, but I also have to endure insults and suspicious stares. Sometimes I wish, if only I could live one day like an ordinary person, I would be content. If I had to trade my life for it, I would, but life doesn’t work that way. I hope everyone appreciates what you have now, so the time becomes wonderful and the years feel lighter,” Diễm shared.
