We often think that Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, but that's not actually the case.

The World’s Tallest Mountain—Nearly 2,000 Meters Higher Than Everest

According to the Daily Express, when people talk about the tallest mountain in the world, they immediately think of Mount Everest, which stands at 8,849 meters above sea level. However, if measured from base to peak, Mauna Kea in Hawaii (USA) holds the true title, with an astonishing height of 10,205 meters.

Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano, with most of its structure submerged beneath the Pacific Ocean. Of its total height, approximately 6,000 meters remain hidden underwater, while only 4,205 meters rise above sea level. This means Mauna Kea surpasses Everest by nearly 2,000 meters when measured from its base to its summit.

Although it has been inactive for the past 4,500 years, Mauna Kea is still considered a living volcano, and scientists believe it could erupt again in the future. A representative from the Smithsonian Institution stated:

"Mauna Kea’s peaceful appearance can be misleading. This volcano is not extinct. It has erupted multiple times over the past 60,000 years, with long dormant periods lasting thousands of years. Future eruptions are almost certain."

Mauna Kea is not only remarkable for its height but also for being home to some of the world’s most advanced astronomical observatories. With its clear skies and high altitude, it is an ideal location for exploring the universe. This majestic volcano is not just a natural landmark of Hawaii but also a testament to the hidden wonders beneath our oceans.
