Put this in the rice bin
To prevent rice weevils from breeding, you can refer to the following tips.
1. Use garlic, pepper, star anise:
Rice weevils are very sensitive to strong-smelling spices such as garlic, pepper, star anise. You just need to put the spices in a small bag made of muslin or loose-grained fabric and drop it into the rice bin. The smell of the spices will scare the weevils away.
Note that these spices will lose their smell after a period of use. To maintain their effectiveness, you need to replace the spice bag with a new one.
2. Use dried orange and tangerine peels:
After eating oranges and tangerines, don't rush to throw away the peels. Dry the peels or dry them and drop them into the rice bin. The essential oil from the orange peels will make them run away and not dare to attack the rice bin again.
Not only that, the pleasant aroma of orange and tangerine peels can blend into the rice, making the rice more delicious.
3. Use salt:
White salt also has the effect of repelling weevils effectively and safely. You just need to sprinkle a little white salt into the rice bin, the weevils will find a way to run away if they eat the salt.
Note, do not use too much salt because this spice can make the rice smell bad and easily get damp.
4. Use white wine:
If you do not want the rice to absorb the pungent smell of spices, you can put a glass of white wine about 50g in the rice bin. Note, make sure the mouth of the glass is not covered, the glass wall must be higher than the rice surface.
Wine has a bactericidal effect and evaporates more easily, so it will not affect the natural flavor of the rice.
5. Store rice in the refrigerator:

The low temperature in the refrigerator will help kill and prevent weevil eggs from growing and developing. You just need to put the rice in a plastic bag or sealed box and leave it in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
Notes on rice storage
Even if you leave the rice uncooked or add the above spices to prevent weevils, you still need to make sure the rice is kept in a dry container/box. Place the rice container in a high, cool place. Absolutely do not place rice in a humid place or exposed to sunlight. Damp rice is very susceptible to mold, affecting the quality of the rice and is not good for health.
The lid of the rice container needs to be tightly closed after each use to prevent the rice from getting damp as well as insects from attacking the rice.
