13-year-old b.o.y has g o u t, the cause comes from the drink that most c h i l d r e n love
Many people think that gout is a disease of the elderly, it has nothing to do with young people. However, this is a wrong thought. Gout is like other chronic diseases, the main group affected is middle-aged and elderly people, not just young people. Recently, the story of a 13-year-old Chinese boy with gout is an early warning for parents.
Xiao Tian is 13 years old this year. A few days ago, the joints of the toes on Xiao Tian's right foot suddenly ached, very uncomfortable. Because he often plays sports, Xiao Tian thought he accidentally sprained it. His family did not pay much attention to this problem.
Three days later, the situation became worse as the pain persisted, the joints of his feet swelled, the skin was tight and red. Seeing this, the family rushed Xiao Tian to the hospital for a check-up.
At the Rheumatology Department of Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, doctors tested the blood and found that the uric acid in the blood had increased to 754 μmol/L, almost twice as high as that of normal people. Ultrasound of the toe joints showed that the joints of the right foot had formed crystals, and the diagnosis was gout.
Such high uric acid in the blood without treatment caused the gout to become more and more severe, and the pain level also increased gradually. Moreover, it can also cause more serious consequences such as the formation of large, hard gout nodules, impaired kidney function, etc.
After carefully examining the possibility of lead exposure, genetic history, and other diseases, the doctor found that Xiao Tian especially liked to drink carbonated drinks and rarely drank water. And this was the "culprit" that caused gout.
After being treated with medicine and hospital preparations, Xiao Tian's symptoms improved after 5 days. In the following period, Xiao Tian will be treated to reduce uric acid in the blood and control uric acid within the allowable level.
The doctor also noted the excessive consumption of carbonated drinks and an unreasonable diet in children. Director Lu, Department of Rheumatology, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said: "In recent years, the incidence of gout has increased every year. This is related to improved living standards but an irregular and unreasonable diet."

Food is increasingly rich and delicious, often containing a lot of purines. A large amount of purines are metabolized and broken down into uric acid. Uric acid in the blood can be saturated, forming urate crystals, depositing in joints, kidneys and other organs, causing gout, joint pain, kidney diseases, etc.
However, it should be emphasized that many people misunderstand that they will not get gout if they do not drink alcohol, do not eat a lot of products such as meat and seafood. Director Lu also said: "Nowadays, many children like soft drinks, especially carbonated drinks. Those children or their parents do not know that drinking too much can cause gout".
In those drinks, the sugar content is very high, and the carbonated drinks can increase uric acid in the blood and lead to gout attacks, which is the main cause of gout in adolescents.
Everyone, especially young people, need to have good eating and exercise habits to prevent gout:
- Reasonable diet: eat lots of green vegetables and fruits; limit eating high-calorie foods, seafood, animal organs; drink less beer, alcohol, sweets, and carbonated drinks.
- Drink plenty of water: should drink 2 - 3 liters of water per day, helps increase urine volume, excrete uric acid better.
- Actively exercise: helps improve the body's resistance, reduce fat accumulation.
