My mother-in-law has been giving me a hard time for 10 years, but her last words made me cry

When my mother-in-law moved in with us under the pretext of taking care of her daughter-in-law, my life was completely controlled by my mother-in-law.

My mother-in-law has been making things difficult for me for the past 10 years, but her last words made me cry

10 years ago, I married my current husband. On the wedding day, I was extremely happy and thought that from now on I would have a happy family. Who knew, this would be the beginning of my nightmare.

When we first got married, my mother-in-law would occasionally come to our house under the pretext of caring for our children. But every time she came, she would point and complain about this and that. Sometimes she would complain about my sloppy clothes, sometimes she would tell me to take care of my husband and cook flavorful dishes because my husband likes to eat.

Sometimes my mother would urge me to get pregnant, sometimes she would even doubt:

- You two have been married for a year and still haven't gotten pregnant, is there a problem with your health? Do I need to go to the hospital for a check-up?

Every time I heard these words, I had to suppress my anger and face it with a smile. My husband wanted to speak for me, but every time he opened his mouth, my mother-in-law glared at me.

Things got worse after I got pregnant. My mother-in-law moved straight in to live with us under the pretext of taking care of her daughter-in-law. From then on, my life was completely controlled by my mother-in-law.

“Pregnant women should not eat cold food, leave this watermelon behind!”, “Why are you using the computer? Radiation is not good for the fetus”, “This dress is too tight, the child will not be comfortable”,… These are the words my mother-in-law often said to me.

I was choked with anger, but thinking about the child in my belly, I swallowed my anger.

Things did not get better after the baby was born. My mother-in-law insisted on raising the child in the old way, which was completely contrary to my parenting methods. The conflict between us became more and more serious, leading to marital conflict and we even considered divorce several times.

Just when I thought this marriage could not continue, my mother-in-law suddenly fell ill. The doctor said she had terminal liver cancer and only had 3 months to live. This news was like a bolt from the blue, making us dizzy.

I thought my mother-in-law would torment me even more, but I did not expect her to suddenly become confused stubborn. One day, my mother suddenly called me into the bedroom.

- I haven't treated you well these past few years. Do you hate me?

My mother-in-law asked weakly. I didn't know how to answer, so I just shook my head.

- Actually... I've always been very grateful to you.

My mother-in-law's words made me dizzy. I didn't understand why she said that.

- I thank you for giving my son a home and giving birth to two lovely grandchildren. I know I did wrong.

I looked at my mother in surprise, unable to believe my ears. Then my mother slowly continued:

- I also suffered a lot of humiliation because my mother-in-law abused me. I swore that I would never become that kind of mother-in-law, but in the end I became the kind of person I hated the most. Can you forgive me?

My mother-in-law choked up and said with tears in her eyes. I could no longer control my emotions and tears welled up. The grudges, resentments, and helplessness of the past 10 years now turned into heartache and guilt.

- Mom, I'm sorry, I've done many things wrong.

I choked up and said. My mother-in-law smiled and shook her head, patting my hand. At that moment, I suddenly understood how difficult her past was behind her harshness.

From that day on, I began to take good care of my mother-in-law. It seemed that we had overcome an invisible barrier and we became closer than ever.

2 months later, my mother-in-law passed away peacefully, and we had no regrets in her final days.

When I was packing up my mother-in-law's things, I found a small notebook. When I opened it, I found it filled with important and small events in our family's past years: the first time my child called me "grandma", the day I got promoted, the day we bought a car, etc. Reading these lines, tears welled up in my eyes...
