Business Class Breakfast Shocks Passengers with an Unbelievable Serving—Made Worse by Chopsticks

Many netizens were astonished by the quality of this in-flight meal.

Airplane meals are always a hot topic among travelers, sparking discussions online. Not only do they vary between airlines from different countries, but even within the same country, different airlines offer distinct meal services.

Since in-flight meals are considered part of the overall airline experience, their quality often reflects the airline’s service standards. That’s why many passengers pay close attention to what they’re served. Recently, a business-class meal from a Japanese airline caused an uproar—because the entire meal consisted of just… a single banana.

This unusual situation happened to a passenger named Kris Chari, who was flying business class with Japan Airlines on a flight from Jakarta to Tokyo. He had pre-ordered a vegetarian meal (VGML) for breakfast. However, when the meal was served, he received nothing but a ripe banana. At first, Kris assumed it was just an appetizer, but to his surprise, it was the only item on his tray. He admitted that the banana tasted good but felt it was more suitable as a snack or light refreshment rather than a full meal.

To make matters worse, the banana was served with chopsticks and a spoon, frustrating many netizens. Some couldn't help but mock the situation: "Did they really expect passengers to eat a banana with chopsticks and a spoon?"

Adding to the disappointment, Kris revealed that his lunch wasn't much better—it was a nearly unseasoned plate of spaghetti.

After the incident went viral, it sparked widespread debate about business-class meal quality. Japan Airlines later issued an apology, acknowledging that they had failed to meet passenger expectations. They also promised to improve their menu to better accommodate the diverse needs of travelers, especially those requesting special meals.

Though this happened some time ago, the story continues to resurface whenever people discuss airline meals, serving as a memorable example of disappointing in-flight dining.
