Ingredients

For the Beef Rolls

  • 400 g (14 oz) beef slices (sirloin, ribeye, or hotpot-style beef)

  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for better searing)

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

For the Soy Garlic Glaze

  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar

  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (for color, optional)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)

  • ½ tsp sesame oil

  • 2 tbsp water

For Garnish

  • Toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

1. Prepare the Asparagus

Blanch asparagus in boiling water for 1 minute, then transfer immediately to ice water.
Drain well and cut into lengths that match the beef slices.

(This keeps the asparagus tender-crisp and bright green.)

2. Make the Beef Rolls

Lay beef slices flat and season lightly with salt and pepper.
Place 1–2 asparagus spears at one end and roll tightly.
Lightly dust with cornstarch if using.

3. Sear the Beef Rolls

Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
Place beef rolls seam-side down first to seal.

Sear, turning occasionally, for 2–3 minutes, until evenly browned.

4. Prepare the Glaze

In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, dark soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and water.

5. Glaze the Rolls

Pour the sauce into the pan with the beef rolls.
Reduce heat to medium and cook for 1–2 minutes, spooning sauce over the rolls until glossy and thickened.

6. Serve

Transfer to a serving dish.
Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and serve hot.
