Reasons why tempered glass can explode, and ways to protect it safely

Tempered glass explodes due to installation errors
This can be considered one of the most common causes of tempered glass explosions, but it is also the least detected, due to incorrect installation. The construction worker only needs to screw the screw at the wrong corner to cause slight cracks to appear on the tempered glass surface. After a period of use, tempered glass will expand according to the environment and thermal effects, causing pressure on the cracks. At that time, even without any external force, tempered glass can explode on its own.
Cracking, breaking, exploding tempered glass when the glass frame is installed too tightly
Although it is "displaced" less than normal glass, tempered glass will still expand when the ambient temperature changes. When installing glass on an aluminum frame, technicians need to apply an elastic layer before installing the glass, creating a gap for the glass to expand when the temperature is too high.
Due to limited space, or poor technical skills of the construction workers, or subjectivity, this gap creation operation is often overlooked or not done well, causing the tempered glass to not be able to expand. When the glass expands to a certain extent and is pressed tightly against the frame, the pressure on the glass surface will increase, leading to the tempered glass exploding.
Nickel Sulfide is mixed in the glass melting process
In fact, impurities such as Nickel Sulfide are very rare. According to experts, a batch of glass usually contains a very small percentage of impurities (about 5mg) in a ton of glass. Although the percentage is very small, these impurities can still cause major problems during the use of tempered glass. The most serious is the phenomenon of tempered glass suddenly breaking after the rapid cooling process.
Poor quality of tempered glass
Tempered glass is a type of glass that can withstand high force and temperature. To produce tempered glass, manufacturers must calculate and balance the impact force and temperature changes. Therefore, even when the glass surface is exposed to sunlight and rain, the temperature on the glass panel changes suddenly, it is difficult to cause the glass to explode, unless it is poor quality glass.
Temperature changes make glass prone to explosion
Constructions with decals or heat-reflective tempered glass can also cause the glass to explode. Explaining this, experts explain that these materials can cause the outermost layer to absorb heat and heat up quickly, causing the glass to swell, leading to heat not being released to the outside, and compressed air for too long can lead to tempered glass spontaneously exploding.
This is a common phenomenon that often occurs in doors, glass partitions in bathrooms or glass panels installed outdoors in high-rise buildings.
Tempered glass is too thin
The perfect thickness of tempered glass is from 8 - 12mm. In case users choose to install low-thickness, poor-quality glass, tempered glass will easily explode even without external force, or easily damaged when impacted.
Although there are reasons that cause tempered glass to crack, break, or explode, up to now, tempered glass is still the type of glass favored by Vietnamese homeowners because of its undeniable advantages. The important thing is that homeowners need to be alert and careful when choosing to buy and install tempered glass in their living space, to minimize unwanted situations caused by tempered glass.
