Why You Should Place Peppercorns Under Your Bed: Surprising Benefits Many People Don’t Know

Peppercorns are a common spice used in many dishes. They have a distinctive aroma and a spicy heat that enhances flavor and stimulates the taste buds. Besides being used as a spice, you can use peppercorns for other purposes, such as placing them under your bed. Just a small handful of peppercorns can help solve many problems around the house.

Since peppercorns are small, you should put them in a thin cloth bag. If you don't have a cloth bag, you can use a disposable face mask, cut one end, put the peppercorns inside, and tie it tightly. You should choose peppercorns with a strong fragrance. Then, you can place the bag of peppercorns at the head of the bed or under the bed.

Benefits of Placing Peppercorns Under the Bed

  • Eliminate Odors
Many people use the area under the bed to store items such as shoes, clothes, and other rarely used belongings, leading to the accumulation of dust and unpleasant smells. In this case, you can place a small bag of peppercorns under the bed to help remove unpleasant odors.
When using this method, check the bag of peppercorns regularly to ensure they still emit a fragrance. Replace them if they lose their scent or become moldy.

  • Repel Insects
Pepper is one of the natural repellents for insects. It has a pleasant scent to humans but is unpleasant to insects. Black pepper, in particular, helps keep flies away and prevents them from laying eggs. You can place a bag of peppercorns under the bed to repel insects like flies and mosquitoes, offering protection for your home.
Additionally, you can mix black pepper with a little egg yolk and place the mixture where flies are common to repel them.

Other Uses of Peppercorns

  • Deodorizing Shoes
Shoes that are worn often can develop unpleasant odors from foot sweat or from being wet and not dried properly. Bacteria growth not only causes odors but can also lead to skin problems.
In this case, you can take a small bag of peppercorns and place it inside the shoes overnight. The dry peppercorns will absorb the moisture inside the shoes and effectively neutralize odors.

  • Deodorizing the Bathroom or Toilet
Bathrooms and toilets are damp environments that can easily develop unpleasant odors and attract insects like mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches. You can use peppercorns to clean the air, remove bad smells, and repel insects.
You can soak some peppercorns in white vinegar for about 3 days, then place the mixture in a bowl in the bathroom or toilet to eliminate odors. Alternatively, for quicker results, you can place peppercorns in a bowl of hot water and let the steam spread the scent to neutralize the bad smells.

  • Eliminate Refrigerator Odors
The aroma of peppercorns can also help eliminate bad smells in the refrigerator. Over time, the scents of various foods mix, creating unpleasant odors. You can place a handful of peppercorns in a bowl of white vinegar. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke small holes in it so the vinegar and pepper smell can spread out. Place the bowl in the fridge to eliminate odors. When you notice the smell is gone, remove the bowl.

  • Repel Rice Weevils
You can take some peppercorns, place them in a thin cloth bag or wrap them in a tissue, and put it in your rice container. The scent of the pepper will prevent rice weevils from entering, helping to preserve the freshness of the rice for a longer period.
