15 mistakes to avoid when renovating your home

If I could go back in time, I would swear I would NOT make these 15 mistakes when renovating my home.

Paying attention to these regrets will help make your living space more comfortable and convenient.

Home decoration is not only about arranging furniture but also a way to express the lifestyle and personality of the homeowner. However, if you do not consider carefully, you can easily make mistakes that make the living space inconvenient or less aesthetic.

The 15 things below will remind you what to do and what to avoid when decorating and designing your home to have a space that is both beautiful and comfortable. All of them are drawn from my own experience.

1. AVOID placing pre-made shoe cabinets in the entrance area

Ready-made shoe cabinets are often not enough capacity and do not meet actual usage needs. Instead, you should build flexible shoe cabinets according to the space in the house, making the most of the space. At the same time, make the cabinet to the ceiling to avoid hidden corners that are difficult to clean and leave a space underneath for convenient placement of frequently used shoes.

2. AVOID placing electrical outlets before placing furniture

Determine the location of appliances and furniture in advance to install suitable sockets. Avoid furniture blocking the socket, causing inconvenience when using.

3. DO keep the wall behind the TV simple

The wall behind the TV will be more eye-catching if decorated with landscape paintings, 3D paintings, etc. However, being too fussy with complex patterns or paintings can easily make the space look messy, outdated and a waste of money.

4. AVOID making the ceiling too complicated

Ceilings with many different details and shapes can easily make the space stuffy and difficult to clean. You should just make a smooth ceiling or plaster moldings, simple but luxurious.

5. SHOULD install a light switch at the head of the bed

Have you ever been in a situation where you lie down comfortably in bed, chill, even yawning, then remembering that you didn't turn off the lights? In this state, getting out of bed and turning off the lights is too lazy, but leaving the lights on is too bright, making it difficult to fall asleep.

Installing a light switch right at the head of the bed will help you turn off the lights right in bed without having to get out of bed, especially in cold weather.

6. AVOID using foreign wall paint and tiles.

There are many types of domestic paint and Vietnamese tiles with good quality and reasonable prices. So you don't need to waste money on international brands but the quality is still the same.

7. AVOID making the kitchen door like a warehouse door

Kitchen doors like warehouse doors are often not sealed. Therefore, the smell of oil smoke still penetrates into the living room, even the bedroom, making the living space smelly. At the same time, warehouse doors have very poor sound insulation.

8. SHOULD choose a reputable window manufacturer

Don't be greedy for cheap doors made in small retail stores. Because poor quality can easily cause water leakage when it rains heavily and it is difficult to call for warranty and maintenance when problems occur.

9. DO install a water trap and choose an odor-proof drain.

Installing water traps and choosing anti-odor drains helps prevent odors from the drainage system, keeping the living space clean and airy. This solution also prevents insects and bacteria from entering through the sewer, protecting the health of the family, thereby maintaining a safe and pleasant living environment.
