Seafood Shop Owner Warns: 4 Types of Shrimp You Should Never Buy

Shrimp is a favorite seafood for many people, loved for its delicious taste and rich nutritional value. However, not all shrimp sold in the market are safe to eat. A seafood shop owner has recently revealed that there are four types of shrimp that can be extremely harmful to your health.

1. Shrimp with Strange or Bright Colors

If the shrimp looks unnaturally bright or has unusual colors (such as fluorescent pink or yellow), it may have been treated with harmful chemicals. These additives are used to make the shrimp look fresh but can be toxic when consumed.

2. Shrimp with Black or Broken Heads

Shrimp with blackened heads or broken shells usually indicate that they are not fresh. In many cases, these shrimp have already started to decompose. Consuming them may lead to food poisoning or digestive problems.

3. Frozen Shrimp with Excessive Ice

When shrimp is covered with thick layers of ice, it is often a sign that the seller is trying to hide the fact that it has been stored for too long. These shrimp lose much of their nutritional value and can harbor bacteria if thawed and refrozen repeatedly.

4. Shrimp with a Strong Chemical Smell

Fresh shrimp should have a mild sea smell. If you notice a strong odor of chemicals, chlorine, or ammonia, it’s a warning sign that the shrimp has been soaked in preservatives. Eating these can severely damage your liver, kidneys, and overall health.
