The Morning Heel Pain: Understanding Plantar Fasciitis.

PHCN Online - VIÊM CÂN GAN CHÂN
1. The "First Step" Pain

This is the most classic sign. You feel a sharp, stabbing pain at the bottom of your heel with your very first steps in the morning after getting out of bed.

  • Why it happens: The plantar fascia (the band of tissue supporting your arch) tightens overnight. Stretching it suddenly when you stand up causes intense pain.

  • Note: The pain usually "warms up" and decreases after a few minutes of walking.

2. Pain After Prolonged Rest

If you have been sitting for a long time (at a desk, in a car, or at a cinema) and then stand up, the sharp pain often returns for those first few steps.

3. Post-Exercise Pain (Not during)

Interestingly, the pain usually doesn't happen during exercise. Instead, it flares up after you stop moving or after a long period of standing on your feet.

4. Specific Pain Location

  • Heel Center: The pain is typically felt at the bottom of the heel bone.

  • Tenderness: If you press firmly on the center of your heel or along the arch of your foot, it will feel very tender or sore.

5. Difficulty with Dorsiflexion

You might find it difficult or painful to pull your toes upward toward your shin. This is often linked to having tight calf muscles or a tight Achilles tendon.
