3 Free Services “Hidden” on Airplanes: If You Don’t Ask, Flight Attendants Won’t Tell
If passengers don’t request them, flight attendants won’t actively mention these services.
Summer is the season when many individuals and families plan trips. One of the most popular modes of transportation is the airplane.
Even frequent flyers may not know that there are certain free services “hidden” on flights. Unless passengers proactively ask, flight attendants are unlikely to offer these services.
The reason is quite simple: the crew has a lot of information to convey to passengers, but time and processes need to be optimized. Therefore, flight attendants prioritize communicating the most essential information, such as safety instructions, the location of restrooms, and emergency procedures.
According to the Chinese platform Sohu, here are three free services available on flights:
1. Beverages
For safety reasons, all passengers must pass through security checks before boarding. At this stage, some types of drinks are not allowed to be brought onto the plane.
To address this, most airlines provide complimentary beverages like water or coffee to passengers. However, on some flights or with certain airlines, these drinks may not be proactively offered to passengers.
If you feel thirsty during your flight, feel free to politely ask a flight attendant for a drink. They will be happy to assist you with a friendly smile.
2. Blankets
To enhance passenger comfort, many airlines prepare a large supply of blankets on board for those who need them.
The cabin temperature may vary depending on the season or time of flight, and individual passengers have different sensitivities to temperature. As a result, some may feel colder than others.
If you feel cold on the plane, don’t hesitate to gently ask the flight attendant for a blanket. They will provide one free of charge.
When the flight ends, it’s polite to fold the blanket neatly and leave it on your seat for the crew to collect and clean.
3. Medicine
Emergency medications are also available on flights and are offered free of charge when needed.
Unlike other modes of transportation, planes cannot make sudden stops if a passenger experiences a minor health issue (unless there’s a severe emergency, in which case the flight will divert to the nearest airport).
To address such needs, airlines keep a small stock of essential medicines on board. These medications are free and do not require any extra payment.
If you suddenly experience discomfort, such as a stomachache or fever, you can explain your situation to a flight attendant and request the necessary medication. Passenger safety and health are top priorities for airlines.
However, these medications are only temporary solutions. After landing, it’s recommended to visit a hospital or consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment based on your condition.
