Meatballs with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Peas & Glazed Carrots
Ingredients
For the Meatballs
-
500 g ground beef
-
1/2 onion, finely diced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 egg
-
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon dried parsley
-
2 tablespoons oil (for frying)
For the Gravy
-
2 tablespoons butter
-
2 tablespoons flour
-
2 cups beef broth
-
1 teaspoon soy sauce
-
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
-
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes
-
4–5 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
-
3 tablespoons butter
-
1/2 cup warm milk or cream
-
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Peas
-
1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
1 teaspoon butter
For the Glazed Carrots
-
2 cups baby carrots (or sliced carrots)
-
1 tablespoon butter
-
1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
-
A pinch of salt
Instructions

1. Make the Meatballs
-
In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and parsley.
-
Mix gently until combined.
-
Roll into small, even-sized meatballs.
-
Heat oil in a pan and fry meatballs until browned on all sides.
-
Remove and set aside (they will finish cooking in the gravy).
2. Make the Gravy
-
In the same pan, melt butter and add flour.
-
Whisk for 1 minute to form a roux.
-
Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking constantly.
-
Add soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
-
Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
-
Add meatballs back into the pan and simmer 5–10 minutes until fully cooked.
3. Make the Mashed Potatoes
-
Boil potatoes in salted water until soft (12–15 minutes).
-
Drain well.
-
Mash with butter and warm milk until creamy.
-
Season with salt and pepper.
4. Cook the Peas
-
Steam or boil peas for 2–3 minutes.
-
Toss with butter, salt, and pepper.
5. Make the Glazed Carrots
-
In a pan, melt butter over medium heat.
-
Add carrots and cook 5 minutes.
-
Add honey (or brown sugar) and a pinch of salt.
-
Cover and cook until tender and lightly glazed.
6. Assemble the Plate
-
Add a large portion of mashed potatoes.
-
Place meatballs with gravy beside it.
-
Add peas and glazed carrots.
-
Finish with black pepper or fresh herbs if desired.
