Meatballs with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Peas & Glazed Carrots 

Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 500 g ground beef

  • 1/2 onion, finely diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • 2 tablespoons oil (for frying)


For the Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons flour

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper to taste


For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 4–5 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 1/2 cup warm milk or cream

  • Salt and pepper to taste


For the Peas

  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 teaspoon butter


For the Glazed Carrots

  • 2 cups baby carrots (or sliced carrots)

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar

  • A pinch of salt


Instructions


1. Make the Meatballs

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and parsley.

  2. Mix gently until combined.

  3. Roll into small, even-sized meatballs.

  4. Heat oil in a pan and fry meatballs until browned on all sides.

  5. Remove and set aside (they will finish cooking in the gravy).


2. Make the Gravy

  1. In the same pan, melt butter and add flour.

  2. Whisk for 1 minute to form a roux.

  3. Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking constantly.

  4. Add soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.

  5. Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).

  6. Add meatballs back into the pan and simmer 5–10 minutes until fully cooked.


3. Make the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until soft (12–15 minutes).

  2. Drain well.

  3. Mash with butter and warm milk until creamy.

  4. Season with salt and pepper.


4. Cook the Peas

  1. Steam or boil peas for 2–3 minutes.

  2. Toss with butter, salt, and pepper.


5. Make the Glazed Carrots

  1. In a pan, melt butter over medium heat.

  2. Add carrots and cook 5 minutes.

  3. Add honey (or brown sugar) and a pinch of salt.

  4. Cover and cook until tender and lightly glazed.


6. Assemble the Plate

  1. Add a large portion of mashed potatoes.

  2. Place meatballs with gravy beside it.

  3. Add peas and glazed carrots.

  4. Finish with black pepper or fresh herbs if desired.
