To clean pig intestines, you only need to use one cheap thing, clean quickly, and have no fishy smell

So what is the best way to clean pork intestines?

Pork intestines are a popular dish enjoyed by many people. Pig large intestine is rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, and various vitamins and minerals.

Pork intestines have become a favorite food thanks to their soft, smooth texture and pleasant flavor that becomes richer the more you chew.

In general, pre-cleaned intestines sold on the market often still contain residues or have an unpleasant odor, so many people prefer buying raw intestines to prepare at home for better hygiene.

However, many still do not know how to clean pork intestines properly so that they become completely clean and odor-free.

While many rely on vinegar or salt, there is a cheap type of powder that can make pork intestines spotless – cornstarch.

How to clean pork intestines

  • Place the purchased intestines into a large basin, add water, and rinse thoroughly. Remove any remaining liquid inside the intestine, then turn the inner side outward.

  • Put the intestine back into the basin and add an appropriate amount of cornstarch. Scrub vigorously, making sure to rub the cornstarch into every fold of the intestine.
When the cornstarch becomes wet and mushy, replace it with fresh cornstarch and continue scrubbing until all the fat inside is absorbed and the inner lining becomes bright and clean.

This process requires patience, but the intestine will become much cleaner and odor-free. Therefore, to clean pork intestines, you only need cornstarch — no salt or vinegar is required.

  • Once all impurities have been removed, turn the intestine back to its original position. Pour water into a pot, add some scallions, ginger, and cooking wine, bring to a boil over high heat, then add the intestines and simmer for about 10–15 minutes.

When the intestines are cooked, remove and let them cool naturally. At this point, they are clean, hygienic, and free from any unpleasant smell.
