Glazed Beef Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Salad & Cornbread

Ingredients

1. Beef Steak

  • 2 beef steaks (sirloin, ribeye, or chuck steak), about 200–250 g each

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Steak Glaze Sauce

  • 2 tbsp beef broth

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp butter


2. Mashed Potatoes

  • 500 g potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 60 ml (¼ cup) warm milk or cream

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)


3. Cucumber–Tomato Salad

  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced

  • 10–12 cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp lemon juice or apple cider vinegar

  • Salt and pepper, to taste


4. Cornbread (Simple Skillet or Oven-Baked)

  • 120 g (1 cup) cornmeal

  • 60 g (½ cup) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 egg

  • 180 ml (¾ cup) milk

  • 2 tbsp melted butter


Instructions


Step 1: Prepare the Cornbread

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.

  2. In a bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, whisk egg, milk, and melted butter.

  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.

  5. Pour into a greased baking dish or skillet.

  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

  7. Cool slightly, then cut into wedges.


Step 2: Make the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water for 15–18 minutes, until fork-tender.

  2. Drain well and return to the pot.

  3. Add butter and mash until smooth.

  4. Gradually add warm milk, mixing until creamy.

  5. Season with salt and pepper.

  6. Garnish with parsley if desired. Keep warm.


Step 3: Prepare the Salad

  1. Combine cucumber and cherry tomatoes in a bowl.

  2. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice.

  3. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

  4. Toss gently and refrigerate until serving.


Step 4: Cook the Beef Steak

  1. Pat steaks dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

  3. Sear steaks for 3–4 minutes per side (medium doneness).

  4. Reduce heat to medium.

Glaze:

  1. Add beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and butter.

  2. Spoon sauce over steaks continuously for 1–2 minutes until glossy.

  3. Remove steaks and let rest for 5 minutes, then slice.


Plating & Serving

  • Place sliced glazed beef on the plate.

  • Add a generous scoop of mashed potatoes.

  • Serve with fresh cucumber–tomato salad.

  • Add a piece of warm cornbread on the side.

  • Spoon extra glaze over the beef for added flavor.
