Asparagus, Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Rolls

Servings: 4
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 20–25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • 12–16 asparagus spears, trimmed

  • 6–8 slices prosciutto or ham

  • 150–200 g mozzarella or Gruyère cheese, sliced or shredded

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Dried thyme or fresh chopped parsley (optional)

  • Garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the asparagus
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
Toss the asparagus with olive oil, a pinch of salt, pepper, and a little garlic powder if using. Lightly roast or blanch for 3–4 minutes so they are just tender but still firm. Set aside to cool.

  2. Prepare the puff pastry
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 6–8 rectangular strips, depending on how large you want each roll.

  3. Assemble the rolls

    • Place a slice of ham or prosciutto on each pastry strip.

    • Add cheese evenly on top of the ham.

    • Lay 2–3 asparagus spears across one end of each strip.

    • Sprinkle lightly with thyme or parsley if desired.

  4. Roll and seal
Carefully roll the pastry around the filling, leaving the asparagus tips slightly exposed. Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  5. Egg wash
Brush the tops of the pastry rolls with beaten egg to achieve a golden, glossy finish.

  6. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  7. Serve
Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
