Mediterranean Meatball Bowl with Roasted Potatoes & Tzatziki

Description

This Mediterranean-style bowl combines juicy pan-seared meatballs, crispy roasted potatoes, and fresh vegetables, finished with a cool, creamy tzatziki sauce. The dish is colorful, balanced, and satisfying—perfect for lunch or dinner.


Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

For the Meatballs

  • 400 g ground beef or lamb (or a mix)

  • 1 small onion, finely grated

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 egg

  • 40 g breadcrumbs

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped


For the Roasted Potatoes

  • 500 g baby potatoes, halved

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano


For the Tzatziki Sauce

  • 200 g Greek yogurt

  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and squeezed dry

  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh dill or parsley, chopped


For the Fresh Salad Components

  • 1 cucumber, chopped

  • 200 g cherry tomatoes, quartered

  • 1/4 red onion, finely sliced

  • Mixed green lettuce

  • Kalamata olives

  • Fresh parsley, chopped


Instructions

Step 1: Roast the Potatoes

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. Toss potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, and oregano.

  3. Spread on a baking tray in a single layer.

  4. Roast for 30–35 minutes, turning once, until golden and crispy.


Step 2: Prepare the Meatballs

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, grated onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, olive oil, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and parsley.

  2. Mix gently until just combined.

  3. Shape into small meatballs (about golf-ball size).


Step 3: Cook the Meatballs

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little olive oil.

  2. Cook meatballs, turning occasionally, for 10–12 minutes until browned and fully cooked.

  3. Remove from heat and set aside.


Step 4: Make the Tzatziki

  1. In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and herbs.

  2. Chill for at least 10 minutes to allow flavors to develop.


Step 5: Assemble the Bowl

  1. Arrange roasted potatoes in the bowl.

  2. Add meatballs, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, and red onion.

  3. Spoon tzatziki sauce into the center.

  4. Garnish with fresh parsley and a drizzle of olive oil.


Serving Notes

  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

  • Optional additions: feta cheese, pita bread, or hummus.
